A video appeared Friday night of Oregon Republican Representative Mike Nearman opening a door as he left the state Capitol, allowing protesters to enter the building while a legislative session was being held. .
In security footage obtained by The Oregonian / OregonLive, the representative exits through two doors, pushing one briefly to allow a protester to enter the venue. A stream of protesters is then seen entering the building before state police force them out, sparking a fight.
At the time of the breach, there was a special session on coronavirus inside the Capitol. Those who entered the building illegally, some carrying rifles, had protested COVID-19 state restrictions on the outside, the Oregon dam reports.
Some of the protesters acted violently during the breach and attacked journalists. One also sprayed an agent with something, as seen in the pictures.
The Oregonian reports that at least two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Hill has contacted the Nearman office for comment.
