Vietnamese truck deaths: Two men found guilty of killing 39 people

Two more men were found guilty of conspiracy to aid illegal immigration; join four other people who pleaded guilty before the trial, the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (CPS) said in a statement on Monday.

A total of 39 Vietnamese migrants, including men, women and children, aged 15 to 44, were found dead on October 22, 2019, after being sealed for more than 11 hours in a container of waterproof outdoor trucks.

“They died from lack of oxygen, desperately trying to escape from the container. Some were able to express their last words to their families with their cell phones when they learned their situation was desperate,” said Russell Tyner of the Division of Organized Crimes of CPS.

“Nothing can recover the lives lost that day and the losses caused by the illegal and dangerous actions carried out by these defendants. But we hope that these convictions will bring some consolation to their families because the perpetrators of these actions they have faced justice, “he added.
