OMAHA, Nebraska (AP): The number of new cases of COVID-19 fell in Nebraska last week, but experts say the cases will continue to rise in the coming weeks.
Nebraska reported 5,313 new cases of the virus last week that ended Friday. This is slightly less than the 5,329 cases the state reported to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the previous week, but more than 20 times the 253 cases per week that Nebraska reported in late June.
Dr. James Lawler, an infectious disease expert at the World Center for Health Security at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, said he does not believe Nebraska or the nation has passed the peak of the latest increase.
