WallStreetBets and the GameStop saga could hit a nearby theater

This was a safe bet …

Hollywood already has its eyes set on last week’s GameStop commercial frenzy.

MGM recently obtained the rights to a book proposal on WallStreetBets RedSit’s RedSit forum tentatively titled “The Antisocial Network,” the deadline reported Sunday.

The planned volume, by Ben Mezrich, will explore how the group of rogue traders shook Wall Street by increasing the shares of GameStop GME,
+ 67.87%
and other companies challenging large hedge funds.

While the saga is still very recent, Deadline reported that Mezrich brought the proposal to market late last week and MGM quickly snatched it away after a war of competitive bidding.

Mezrich is the author of “Accidental Billionaires: The Foundation of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal,” which was adapted into the 2010 Oscar winner “The Social Network.”
