Walmart in Visalia will close the weekend for cleaning and sanitation

FRESNO, California (KFSN) – One after another, people looking to shop at the Visalia Walmart Supercenter on Mooney Boulevard are moving away.

The store is closed and Walmart officials say it will remain so throughout the weekend as cleaning crews work to clean up the entire building.

“Mooney’s Super Walmart does a lot of business and affects people,” says Visalia Mayor Steve Nelson.

Officials did not confirm whether the closure was related to a COVID outbreak, but said in a statement: “All we are doing is for the well-being of our partners and customers, and taking into account the orientation of the centers to to Disease Experts in Health and Safety Control (CDC) and we will continue to work closely with elected and local health officials, adjusting the way we serve the community. “

Nelson says he still hopes to know the cause of the closure.

“I read his press release,” he said. “They talk about the pandemic, but it has never been consolidated that it is because of a COVID situation.”

Many shoppers were redirected to Walmart’s location on Nobel Avenue.

On Saturday afternoon, the parking lot was full.

“If you’re worried, there are different ways to buy,” Nelson said. “You can shop online, you can go to your local businesses, there are fewer people packaged in the store.”

Mooney’s Walmart Supercenter is scheduled to reopen Monday at 7 p.m.
