Walmart shooting in Glenolden, Delaware County, linked to Darby’s position: police

DARBY, PA (WPVI) – Delaware County Police are looking for an armed suspect after an altercation and a shooting at a Walmart in Darby Township. Police tracked the suspect to his home in Darby district, and set up the building for several hours, only to find he was not there. Police have not released the suspect’s identity.

“The issue I would say is armed and possibly dangerous,” Darby Township Police Chief Mike Sousa said.

Police say it began around 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Walmart on MacDade Boulevard in Darby Township when the suspect and an employee argued. The two ended up in the lobby area at the front of the store when police said the suspect fired a shot at the employee. The shot failed and no one was injured.

“From what we received in the store, this is just a random fact. These two were not known. It was a kind of verbal argument the suspect had with the employee possibly for a video game sale,” Sousa said. .

Police say he fled Walmart after he was involved in another incident in Upper Darby and is believed to have returned home to block 400 of Main Street in Darby district.

Several agencies responded, including agents with SWAT equipment, surrounding their residence and blocking the street. Police now believe the suspect fled his home before officers arrived.

“We used the emergency response team to try to locate the suspect. We can’t locate him right now,” Darby County Police Chief Joseph Gabe said.

Police arrested two of the suspect’s vehicles, including this white Chevy Impala parked near his home.

“It could be on foot or someone picking it up,” Sousa said.

Walmart issued a statement saying it was cooperating with authorities and the store is expected to reopen on Monday.

Anyone with information who has asked to contact the police.
