Knightdale, NC – Authorities are investigating the bomb threats made at two Walmart stores Sunday morning.
A Knightdale Walmart was evacuated by a bomb threat.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an active bomb threat at Walmart at 7106 Knightdale Blvd. Around 8:30 a.m., a male subject called the store to say he was placing devices around the building and threatening to detonate them if their needs were not met.
At 10:30 a.m., police said there did not appear to be a threat in the store. Everyone was evacuated safely.
“The content of these lawsuits leads us to believe that there are other issues at stake,” said Lawrence Capps, Knightdale police chief.
A woman told WRAL that emergency personnel went to the Knightdale store and told her she needed to leave.
“It’s like, oh God, what did I get into?” said Kris Minton. “It was a terrifying experience.”
The sheriff’s office is asking the public to avoid the area.
In addition, Durham police are investigating a bomb threat at Walmart at 1525 Glenn School Rd. in Durham. Officers blocked the entrances to the store, which is located between Interstate 85 and E. Geer St.
Around the building was the tape of the crime scene, where employees were seen leaving the store.
It is not known if the two threats are connected. No explosive devices were found after 9:45 p.m.
WRAL works to get more information.
