When British Prime Minister Boris Johnson shared the terrible news that a new strain of the coronavirus, which seems to be spreading faster, was gaining ground in some parts of England this weekend, he said there was no there was evidence to suggest that the mutation was resistant to COVID-19 vaccines. But U.S. scientists at the Walter Reed Army Research Institute are now analyzing the data to see if there is any reason to worry. Nelson Michael, director of Walter Reed’s Infectious Diseases Research Center, told CNN, “It makes sense that this mutation is not a threat, but you never know. We still have to be diligent and keep watching.” Michael said they should know in the coming days if there is concern about the mutation. In August, Walter Reed published a study showing that developed vaccines worked against other coronavirus mutations.
