Wayne County pitcher says violent and recent threats make her live in fear

A Wayne County investigator is speaking Thursday after a New Hampshire woman was accused of threatening her online.

Monica Palmer, president of the chain, says she is afraid of her life and that of her family after receiving violent and threatening messages in November.

“I received text messages with graphic photos of naked and dead women and then a photo of my daughter letting me know that this will happen to my daughter,” Palmer said during a meeting of the Michigan State Board .

Palmer and his 12-year-old daughter were threatened by Katelyn Jones, 23, after the pitcher initially voted against certifying the 2020 election results in November.

Jones is accused of sending several threats to Palmer via text message and Instagram, including two graphic photos of the body of a mutilated woman with a note to Palmer saying her daughter “should be scared.” Jones was arrested by the FBI at her mother’s home in New Hampshire, where she admitted to sending the messages.

“The idea of that … You’re looking back every moment of every day,” Palmer said of the threats. “You’re not sleeping.”

Threats against Palmer are the latest in a year of growing threats of political violence and intimidation.

More recently, armed protesters gathered in front of the Detroit home, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson; violent voice messages were left for Democratic state Rep. Cynthia Johnson, who in turn called on supporters to stand up to Trump voters; and – most violent of all – a plot to kidnap and kill Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for alleged national terrorists earlier this year.

On Thursday, Palmer said he was grateful that the person behind the threats was now behind bars, but the fear has not gone away.

“I can’t go to the grocery store. I can’t go shopping for Christmas without fear of someone kidnapping my daughter, ”said Palmer.

If convicted, Jones could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $ 250,000.

Palmer says he plans to remain on the Wayne County Canvassers Board despite recent events.
