Wayne County Senators Send Letter to Department of Health Requesting School Mask Requirement

LIVONIA, Mich. – Wayne County senators have sent a letter to the county health director requesting an emergency health order to require staff and students in all public schools to wear masks.

The letter, addressed to Principal Melita Jordan, cites the upward trend in COVID-19 cases in Wayne County in recent weeks. One of the main concerns noted in the letter is that without proper COVID mitigation procedures, such as the use of masks, outbreaks could occur and force students to leave the classroom.

“We know you share the same concerns we have when it comes to safeguarding public health and giving our students every chance to succeed and stay healthy by learning this academic year in person. Masks are an effective and proven means. with that goal in mind, ”the letter says. “As local leaders, you know you have our support if the Wayne County Department of Health, Human Services and Veterans chooses to keep track of Michigan’s neighboring counties demanding universal K-12 masking in our schools.”
