Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has said she will maintain the course and will not implement new restrictions as COVID cases increase.

“We know we’re seeing a resurgence,” Whitmer said. “We, as a nation, did not come together to defeat this virus.”

Whitmer made open comments to MSNBC stating that residents were not focusing on getting rid of COVID-19.
“You’ve been activated and this virus has affected us,” Whitmer said.
At the start of the pandemic, Whitmer used the executive powers to establish an order to stay at home, but there is no current closure as coronavirus variants increase.

Whitmer said he has smart policies in place, such as the mask mandate, but that there is still fatigue from COVID. When asked if he has the political capacity to take more aggressive action, he said, “We retain some powers, but we remain incredibly divided after the politics of this difficult time.”
