West Sussex Primary School, UK, launches “scarce” mothers’ clothes

A primary school in West Sussex, England, warned parents to pick up their children with miniskirts, low tops and other garments that “look like underwear,” according to The sun.

A letter sent to families by Seymour Elementary School, titled “Playground Etiquette,” called for parents to dress appropriately when they drop off or pick up their children. “Wearing clothes that are too scarce or for other times of the day is not a good example,” the letter said, according to The Sun.

The reaction among the parents was mixed, according to the tabloid. “I saw moms in gowns and slippers, and one wearing a sheer mini skirt and a short top on a cold spring day; literally, you could see it all.” The sun he quoted one. Another, however, apparently called the letter “above” and was offended by its tone.

In response, the school issued a statement to a local news outlet, the Crawley Observer, which published a news item stating that the letter had generated “national headlines”. “While it is well thought out as a guideline,” the statement said, “the school acknowledges that the writing might have been less prescriptive.”
