West Virginia officials accidentally gave 42 people COVID-19 antibody treatment instead of the Modern vaccine.
The West Virginia National Guard he said in a statement that “found out about a bug” on Wednesday that caused individuals to receive treatment with Regeneron’s COVID-19 antibody instead of the vaccine.
The National Guard said people have been contacted and that the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services will follow up with these people as a precaution.
The incident took place at a vaccination clinic hosted by the Boone County Department of Health.
In a independent statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, the department said it was “determined to be an isolated incident,” adding that the vaccine will be offered to people.
The health department and the National Guard said they do not believe there is any risk of harm to people.
It is unclear how the mixture occurred. Julie Miller, administrator of the health department, did not give additional details about the incident when asked to comment.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services did not provide additional details either.
The Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency use authorization for the treatment of antibodies to end of November for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in adults and children at least 12 years of age who have a high risk of progressing to severe disease.

The incident is not the only one that has occurred when states compete to vaccinate their populations.
Earlier this week, an employee of a Wisconsin medical center “intentionally” removed 57 vials of Moderna’s vaccine from a freezer, causing it to be discarded.
