Wet and windy for New Year’s celebrations

SEATTLE: We ended 2020 with rain, although the year was generally dry. It was the first dry year in over 5 years.

Monday will be mostly dry especially in the afternoon. Tuesday will be wet and windy but mild. Seattle benefits from the “shadow of the rain,” but most of western Washington will get wet on Tuesday.

A cold, gusty front moves during Tuesday evening and this will make it a breeze for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The front looks like it will move in time for the fireworks, so expect less rain as we enter midnight. It will not be cold during the midnight blow with temperatures of about 48 degrees. This is pretty smooth.

New Year’s Day seems windy and humid, but remember that in Seattle there is less rain, as the rain shadow keeps us drier than most in the region.

Snow levels are rising on Tuesday and Wednesday, so there is no snow on the steps these two days. Later in the week it gets colder, so the snow returns to the steps on Thursday and Friday.

Colder weather will come next weekend! Happy New Year.
