President Biden will not be the last word on whether former President Donald Trump continues to receive intelligence reports, the White House spokeswoman said.
Biden, in a clip from an interview with CBS News published Friday, said Trump should not know the secrets of the United States “because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection,” referring to the Capitol revolt of January 6th.
But White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement on Saturday: “The president expressed concern that former President Trump was gaining access to sensitive intelligence, but also deeply trusts his own. intelligence team to make a determination on how to provide intelligence information if at some point former President Trump requests an information session ”.
Asked by anchor Nora O’Donnell about her worst fear of allowing Trump to continue access to U.S. intelligence, Biden said he would rather not “speculate out loud.”
”I just don’t think I need to have this intelligence briefing. What value is an intelligence briefing giving you? What impact does it have, other than the fact that it could slip and say something? “Biden said.
Former presidents and other former senior officials routinely retain access to classified information.
