President Biden on Sunday commented on the sexual harassment scandal of Governor Andrew Cuomo, who refused to call for his resignation, while saying he wants to see what comes of the independent investigation into the allegations.
A White House reporter asked the president if he believes the three-term Democrat should resign, according to a report from the president’s press group.
“I think the investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us,” Biden said.
Earlier Sunday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi similarly refused to ask Cuomo to resign, saying only “he has to look into his heart” to decide whether to step down.
“I think we should see the results of the investigation,” the California Democrat said ABC News “This week“.
“And what I’m saying is that the governor should look at his heart (he loves New York) to see if he can govern effectively. I think we should see the results of the investigation, “he added.
The charges facing Cuomo have sparked an investigation by the state attorney general, Letitia James, and the New York State Assembly has opened an investigation into his dismissal.
Several Democrats representing New York in Congress, including Messrs. Kristen Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, have called for Cuomo’s resignation.
Cuomo, 63, has continued to deny the allegations and vowed not to submit to “cancel the culture” and leave office.
