Who killed Sara? became in less than a month the most watched series on Netflix globally. With only two weeks of transmission the series has managed to position itself in the first position in more than 40 countries.
So much was the success that the streaming company announced, two days before its release, that it would launch its second season on May 19, but what can its fans expect in the new season?
The creator and producer of the series, José Ignacio “Chascas” Valenzuela, spoke exclusively with the spokesman about the second season of production.
“Season two is more intense than season one. It’s more dizzying, more hectic, more amazing. The twists are even more impressive. All I can tell you is that if they liked the one the two will like it maybe a little bit. more, ”Valenzuela said from his Miami office.
This new season was recorded last year in Mexico at the height of the covid-19 pandemic. Valenzuela has explained that most of the episodes of the first season were recorded in the last quarter of 2019 and as soon as the pandemic started they stopped recording until they were able to resume the calls.
“There were a couple of episodes missing from the first season when the pandemic came and obviously Netflix suspended everything at that moment to see what was going on. We stopped for a few weeks. When we saw that we could, with special care, resume everything, it resumed so very segmented. I even rewrote several scenes from season one and season two to make them ‘covid friendly’ without damaging the story, ”the Chilean writer argued.
Valenzuela stressed that during the recordings no one was infected with covid-19.
The series stars Colombian Manolo Cardona and Mexican Carolina Miranda. In this second season three new actors are integrated. Matías Novoa (the lord of the sky), Daniel Giménez Cacho and Antonio de la Vega (Club of crows, El Chapo). Eugenio Siller, Ginés García Millán, Claudia Ramírez and Alejandro Senars continue.
Likewise, Puerto Rican Luis Roberto Guzmán will also continue in this new season and José Ignacio Valenzuela highlighted the work of the boricua during the recordings.
“It’s the first time I’ve worked with him. I’ve been following Luis Roberto for years. Of course I knew him, not in person, but from there. He worked in the same channels he worked for, he made films. He’s a tough guy. I admire him a lot, “he said.
Guzmán plays an openly gay lawyer who tries to start a family with his partner, Chema (Eugenio Siller). Valenzuela has highlighted that these characters are a small representation of her personal story alongside her husband, who is Puerto Rican, and with whom she has a daughter.
“When I found out that he (Guzmán) was going to be Lorenzo’s character I was very excited and the fan I carry inside came out. When we had our first meeting I was nervous because I was in front of the Panther,” he explained. excited the writer.
“The plot that he did with Eugenio Siller is a very personal plot. It’s a plot that I put a lot of heart and a lot of experience into. Both Eugenio and Luis Roberto gave themselves in a way, so respectful, so realistic, so full of honesty that it’s impossible not to empathize with this couple and that was what I wanted, ”he added.
The story lends itself to one more season
Contrary to what one of the protagonists of the production, Leo Deluglio, said, Chascas said that the series, inspired by the detective style of English writer Agatha Christie, gives for a third season. “History gives. In fact, that’s like a requirement when you present something to a (service) streaming. In general I always tend to think of a story arc that lasts at least three seasons. It doesn’t mean that it’s they have to do all three seasons, but I want to be sure that what I’m presenting has fabric to be cut. I also want my bosses to know, that in case this goes well, there’s a story to tell, “he said. explain.
“I have no idea if there will be a third season or not. Most likely this is something Netflix will decide a while after watching the two on the air. Here I will know,” he added.
Meanwhile, the writer let this newspaper know that he is already preparing another series, although he did not go into details. He similarly indicated that later this year or the year he would release another children’s book.
