Apple is expected in a few weeks to launch the Apple Watch Series 7 along with the new iPhone 13 models, and it looks like it could be one of the most exciting design updates we’ve had on the Apple Watch in a few years.
This year we don’t expect any new health features, and if there are new health sensors, Apple has kept them wrapped up, but several rumors have indicated that the Apple Watch Series 7 will have a new design.
The next Apple Watch could have a flat-cut design similar to the design of the iPhone 12 and iPad Pro. Filtered representations based on CAD drawings have depicted iPhone-12-style flat curves, a thinner digital crown, and a new speaker design on the left side of the watch.

Bloomberg says the Apple Watch will have thinner screen frames with the screen using a new lamination technique that brings it closer to the front cover, and with this new housing and screen technology, the next models are expected to have sizes of 41 mm and 45 mm, only slightly larger than the current size options of 40 and 44 mm.
The screen of the 45 mm model measures 1.8 inches according to rumors, compared to the 1.73-inch screen of the previous model. We don’t know the size of the 41mm model yet, but you’re likely to see a similar size increase.
The rumors have mixed with the thickness. BloombergMark Gurman said Apple’s watch could be a little thicker overall, but not in a way noticeable to users, but that leaked suggested it would be 1.7mm thinner, which is a decrease in decent thickness. We will have to wait to see the exact dimensions of the housing.
It is rumored that Apple is studying new color options for the 7 Series and could come in a shade of green aluminum. Last year, Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 6 in blue aluminum.
Inside, the Apple Watch Series 7 will feature an updated S7 chip that could use dual-sided technology to reduce its size. The smaller S7 chip could leave more room for extra battery life and other components, and the new Apple Watch is expected to get better wireless connectivity and a better U1 Ultra Wideband chip.
There is a possibility that we may get a new, more durable version of the Apple Watch this year. Bloomberg says Apple is considering a rugged version of the Apple Watch aimed at athletes, hikers and others who are more likely to damage their Apple watches. It is unclear whether this model will arrive in 2021 or 2022.
As for the new software, the Apple Watch Series 7 will run watchOS 8, which adds Focus mode, new Mindfulness features, home and wallet enhancements, and more. Apple will also add new “Running Time” and “Audio Meditation” features that will be added to the “Walking Time” feature released earlier this year.
According to previous release dates, the most likely date for the event to feature the Apple Watch Series 7 and iphone 13 models is Tuesday, September 14, but the following week is also possible. Either way, we don’t have much time left to wait before Apple unveils the first fall device launch range.
