The first significant game revelation included a lot in three minutes, including panoramic views and some combat moments, all along with old characters (Mimir! Freya! Brok!) And new ones (Thor!) Angrboda!). God of War Ragnarok it’s still a long way off, with a wide version for 2022, but we’re officially at this point in the advertising cycle where the drip information feed begins to drip-feed. This is what you need to know.

It will be a single shot again.

Like its 2018 predecessor, God of War Ragnarok will deploy what is colloquially known as the technique of “ensuring that NYU movie guys talk about your project.” In other words, it will unfold in an uninterrupted scene. Ragnarok narrative director Matt Sophos confirmed both on Twitter.

A new director is at the helm.

Cory Barlog, who led the 2018 game, passes the torch. Up Ragnarok is Eric Williams, who has been working on the series since 2004. But Barlog is still involved in the game. Williams then describes his collaborative process a IGN:

There were hard times, I’ll be honestly honest, where he said, “Hey, I think you’re messing up this part. Look at it again. And I’d say, ‘Okay, fuck you.’ ‘office and I’d come back like ten minutes later and say,’ God forbid. You’re right. Let me go look at this. Other times, I’d say, ‘Hey, I’ve been thinking about this again. as many actions as I said ».

Thor is not the only major newcomer.

At the end of last week’s trailer, you saw him (or, his hammer). But the God of Thunder is not the only member of the Nordic pantheon to make an appearance Ragnarok. His father, Odin, will also appear, with the voice of Richard Schiff, better known as Toby on The western wing. Both father and son are allegedly upset by the death of their relatives by Kratos’ violent hand in the first game.

You will finally be able to check out the nine realms.

Norse mythology famously features nine kingdoms. The 2018 game will allow you to visit, with different degrees of depth, six of them: Alfheim, Helheim, Jotunheim, Midgard (where much of the game takes place), Muspelheim and Nilfheim. Three others — Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, and the bright Asgard water room — remained closed. Visit the nine Ragnarok.

But like Williams he said IGN, you won’t finish falling back on the old ground for two-thirds of the game. Ragnarok is located in the heart of Fimbulwinter, a land-changing event that precedes Ragnarok three years. For Midgard, that means a layer of frost. For the other eight kingdoms, however, it is not necessarily a permanent winter. Expect changes to the six regions you visited in the first game.

The fight will be more vertical than in the last game.

In RagnarokThe game reveals the trailer, you may have seen a time when Kratos uses Chaos Blades (twin knives attached to long chains) to face a ledge. This is because, unlike the first game, it is fought God of War Ragnarok it will not exist to a large extent in a flat plan. Williams he said IGN that Ragnarok it will have a certain degree of verticality and will provoke a “almost king of the hill” style of combat mode.

Sorry, no specific release date yet.

But when God of War Ragnarok will be out sometime next year, it will be on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
