Cybercrime has increased its work this year due to the pandemic, due to the use of Home Office and internet sales, platforms like WhatsApp have become more essential for today’s market.
That’s why hackers are even more focused on social media, but especially on the instant messaging app, as it’s one of the most used on the planet and the most popular for communicating today.
From Spain report on a new method in which these criminals try to steal WhatsApp accounts, but in this case it is not a technical way, but rather something simple and fast.
Whatsapp account theft method
The new deception to users who point to Spanish media, is to impersonate a contact of the victim and then write the following message:
“Hi, I’m sorry, I’m sending you a 6-digit code by SMS by mistake, can you pass it on to me please? It’s urgent.”
In this case, the user will receive a message with a 6-digit code, which is completely true. The problem is that sharing these numbers is extremely dangerous, as they would be registering the user’s account on another mobile, which means that the hacker will have access to everything.
Here we must make one thing very clear is that for nothing in the world you have to share your WhatsApp codes with other people, as the security of your account could be violated and stolen by another person.
WhatsApp warns its users that “never share your WhatsApp verification code with other people. If someone is trying to seize your account, to do so, they will need the verification code sent by SMS message to “Without this code, no user trying to verify your number will be able to complete the verification process and use the WhatsApp number. This means that you remain in control of your WhatsApp account.
