This morning, our Alexa asked my fiancé and me if we wanted her to remember our specific voices so that “she could better meet our needs,” and we instantly both responded with a loud “NO,” as she reminded us the speed with which technology has been advancing while imagining a very specific dystopian future scene in Terminator 2.
With algorithms that constantly analyze our patterns and that Deepfakes makes us grow increasingly insecure about what is real, we are continually amazed and amazed at how quickly technology is evolving. Apparently, a new technology appears from Google (we still could not find it) that tries to turn animated images into hyperrealistic. An FGC member named Siberian_644 he’s been testing it on Street Fighter characters and the results are mostly terrifying, sometimes funny, and occasionally gorgeous.
As amazing as you may be with some of these, with as many Snapchat filters as we’ve seen doing miraculous feats (from getting rid of acne to becoming anime characters) it’s no surprise that we’re developing this kind of thing.
We’ve completed 18 of the characters posted in the Siberian feed (there are many more if you like what you see here) and you can check them out below. Some turned out pretty good (Chun-Li, Cammy and Vega), although some are total nightmare fuel.
Zangief, Ibuki and Gill are quite horrible as Gief looks like Quazimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Damn and Gill remembers Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Good (Goodbye Horses). Ibuki is actually a slight upgrade over its usual look, but it’s still very scary.
Another point of interest, Google sees that some characters wear glasses. M. Bison, Sagat, Juri, and E. Honda have a pair of bifocals in their hyper-real versions.
