The mock draft season has been thrown in excess as the 2021 NFL draft approaches, now just eight days away. And that means it’s time for Mel Kiper Jr.’s annual combine drill. and Todd McShay of ESPN.
The rules of the combined draft are simple:
- Three full rounds, all 105 selections.
- Options will alternate with Kiper starting at number 1.
- Traps and baits are not allowed.
So how were the New York Giants in this mock duel? Well, at No. 11 overall they got a gem at Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith (chosen by Kiper).
Daniel Jones needs more weapons and will now have the winner of the Heisman Trophy alongside free agent signing Kenny Golladay. This Giants offense could be dangerous in the NFC East.
Smith’s chances of being available here: 47.6%
In the second round, it was McShay’s turn to make a selection for the Giants and he settled on Oklahoma runner-up Ronnie Perkins, who has become a more popular Big Blue drill lately.
I love this fit. Perkins is an excellent passenger, which is exactly what the giants need, and he has good value for him in that rank. He had 5.5 sacks and nine QB rushes in just six games last season.
McShay also got the Giants ’final pick at No. 76 in round 3, with North Carolina defender Chazz Surratt.
Surratt has a side-to-side range and can cover tight ends or running backs in the passing game. It brings a different element to the defense body of the giants.
All three players are interesting options and would probably play an important role for the Giants out the door, but does it address all the team’s concerns? Would you like this selection during the first three rounds, Big Blue fans?
