Why “disappointed” Brian Cashman makes no change to the Yankees

After his worst two-week stretch to open a season in more than two decades, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman acknowledged that “it’s certainly been a disappointing start,” but added that there were no major changes.

“It’s 15 games,” Cashman said. “It’s 15 games I’d like to forget about.”

GM said owner Hal Steinbrenner was “clearly disappointed. He invested heavily in this situation.”

But Cashman added that they were not going to change course.

“We know the best days are ahead,” Cashman said during a Zoom call Monday, a day after the Yankees dropped their fifth straight game as the Rays swept a series in the Bronx.

He also supported manager Aaron Boone.

While Boone is “on the same boat” as the rest of the organization in terms of being tried on the difficult stretch, Cashman said he “is doing everything he has to do.”

Cashman noted Boone’s “angry” message to the team after Friday’s loss.

“He’s committed to the group in a strong way and he’s doing everything he has to do,” Cashman said. “And most importantly, support these guys. We trust these guys throughout the season. He’s doing everything he can … I have a lot of confidence in these guys. “

GM said the same of its players.

“I don’t see us shaking the list too quickly,” Cashman said.
