Why not fix these Switch games to work with Ring-Con, Nintendo? – Function

Ring Con patches for Nintendo Switch games

Remember when the Nintendo Labo VR Kit was released and a handful of Switch games included The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, i Super Mario Odyssey – Have you received unlikely updates to Labo VR mode? We might not have spent hours exploring Hyrule with Nintendo VR glasses on our face, but we certainly enjoyed the novelty of playing other games with this mostly cardboard peripheral.

We recently looked at how Team Nintendo Life remains active in early 2021, but even when we are no making iron bombs or making jokes in the living room, we would appreciate any excuse to get up from the couch while we also played our “normal” games – anything that makes the blood circulate! With certain regions around the world already entering another closure or on the verge of new restrictions to combat the third wave of the pandemic, we are looking for any small news we may find these days. Fortunately, we know a company that specializes in this area and we have been thinking of another Nintendo peripheral to which many of us have access, namely the Ring-Con that includes Ring Fit Adventure.

While some (but not all) of the NL team have used it daily for the past year or so, we wouldn’t mind trying it with other Switch games, as we did with Labo glasses. To that end, we’ve come up with some ideas about Ring-Con-compatible modes that Nintendo could add to its Switch library with a blatant update or two.

Are these suggestions completely serious? Why yes, each of them is a stone-faced winner, sure and Nintendo would be silly … TOLS! – Do not rush to implement each and every one to entertain us during the next wave of distancing and social confinement. *

So let’s take a look at what Ring-Con modes we’ve thought of in other Switch games …

* Jokes! Except for a few funny ideas, they’re all a little silly … OR ARE THEY?

While it’s possible to play VR mode in Breath of the Wild indefinitely, spending hours with Labo glasses tied to your face isn’t how we want to play it. Still, it was a fun novelty to experiment with and we think a little implementation of Ring-Con would work much better.

The most obvious mode would be to use the controller as an arc – Link’s Crossbow Training 2, anyone? We are thinking of a mini-game that is accessed through a NPC on the map where the ring is thrown to load an arrow and drop fire on a target: Octorok, Keese, balloon, anything.

As an alternative (and as suggested by the solid collaborator of the American League Gonçalo Lopes), what about the races against the NPCs or the long-distance marathon courses on the trellis tracks and trails throughout the kingdom ? Keeping the Ring-Con and jogging to get around, just like you do to run around the world in Ring Fit Adventure, you can compete against people or maybe deliver mail across the kingdom on a series of side missions to win a new swag or Ring to use as a weapon. The Ring Fit dress, perhaps?

Hi, if Link has a Nintendo Switch t-shirt in his inventory, there’s no reason why he can’t win any other promotional material. Want to make a magnificent sunset and who could resist going for a run on the cliff?

Wait … you’ll never guess. The Ring-Con … is a steering wheel. Unprecedented! Genius! Revolutionary!

Of course, this has already been tested and even works to some extent. Unfortunately, it is difficult to drag or shoot objects while the Joy-Con is tightly locked at the top of the Ring-Con in a powerful Controller Conflict. If Nintendo incorporated an official Ring-Con mode Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, at the very least, would require some movement-based shaking or tightening to activate the items.

Still, of all our ideas, this is probably the easiest to implement and the most likely.

Splatoon 2 (Switch)Splatoon 2 (Switch)

Date of publication: July 21, 2017 (USA) / July 21, 2017 (United Kingdom / EU)

Squadron 2 he already has a lot of weapons and we’re sure Sheldon could get his hands on a Ring-Con-like shield that absorbed the paint as he stood up and made him explode again against enemy inclement weather as he expressed himself. Navigating the world with any kind of alacrity would be difficult, so it would probably have to be broken down into its own mode in a smaller arena where everyone had a Ring-Con. Then there would be fun.

Alternatively, what about some kind of PvE mode where the Ring-Con player (massively OP) is stopped and the others have to work together to eliminate them? Pah, this game material is easy. Next!

Luigi changes his Poltergust G-00 for a Ring-Con with a funny name – the Screamer in a vacuum, something like that – it sucks absolutely everything in a wide radius when you throw it and blows ghosts around the room when you press.

Again, simple navigation can be a problem outside of Ring Fit’s on-rails world, so it may work better as an optional co-op mode; the Ring-Con player sucks all the money while he is put on the sholders of the main player who bursts the ghosts and moves as usual.

Silence please. Tennis rackets are tan 19th Century: Wouldn’t it be more fun if you used a big disk to ring to make floating balls explode with each other with gusts of air?

It would probably work best as an optional “Volleyball” mode or something, perhaps with a player controlling the character’s body on the court while the Ring-Con player concentrated on shooting. Either way, it’s something we would definitely turn on and play for, oooh, four or five minutes, at least!
