FLINT, Michigan (WJRT) – Federal and local investigations are underway after two women allegedly attacked a U.S. postal service mail carrier in Flint on Thursday.
The alleged attack took place on Floyd McCree Drive between the River Village and Schafer Square apartment complexes. The Flint Police Department is investigating in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which is the postal service’s police agency.
A viewer captured a video of the attack around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. It appears that her family member intervened to help the post worker while two other women kept her stationary, pulling her hair out during the process.
You can hear one of the alleged assailants yelling, “She hit me first” in the video. Then, the video shows the two women getting back in the car and speeding up. The man filming the attack took a look at the damage to the front of the mail truck before the images were finished.
“You know, you get a video and it’s always useful, but it never tells the whole story, because you never know when the camcorder turned on, what happened before, what happened after it turned off. So there are still some unanswered questions, “Genesee County Attorney David Leyton said.
The Flint police department arrested at least one woman in connection with the incident. Leyton awaits answers to some questions before deciding whether to issue criminal charges in the case.
He said the postal worker involved in the incident was treated and released from a hospital in the area for some cuts. It is expected to recover completely.
The mail company was unable to complete its route, which is a major problem for the postal service. His motto says that even severe weather does not stop his work.
Investigators are still studying the damage caused to the mail truck.
“We try to decide what happened when. What happened first, the hen or the egg, the shock or the aggression, and why it happened. And if there was a shock, how did that happen, ”Leyton said. “So all of these things are still under investigation.”
Authorities are unclear about the relationship between the women accused of assaulting the mail carrier.
The National Association of Letter Carriers, which is the union of employees of the postal service, could not be contacted on Friday. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service issued the following statement on Friday stating that the attack had nothing to do with stimulus checks:
