WR Deebo Samuel will do MRI

The 49ers received some brutal news of injuries during Friday’s practice with the Chargers. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel left the session early with muscle tension. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR 680 in San Francisco that the receiver will have an MRI of what the club believes is a gluteal injury.

“Deebo, I had a tight butt today,” Shanahan said. “So he retired from practice and then had an MRI done right now. So I’m on the same boat as you are. I’m here waiting to get the news back.”

There is a possibility that they may seek to determine the exact location of the disease before working on treatment. Samuel’s loss over any period of time would be a significant blow to the 49ers ’offense, which is already short for wide receivers.

Samuel played in 15 games his rookie season, but last year suffered multiple injuries that limited him to just seven games. In a receiving body where he and Aiyuk are the two best options by a wide margin, his absence would handle a lot of what they do in the race game and in the short zone pass game.

According to all reports from the camp, Samuel was preparing for a nice preseason and seemed ready to recover after his 2020 campaign, injured by injuries. There is no chronology for his return, although MRI results should give a better indicator of when he will act again.

The 49ers can afford to miss the last preseason pair. They can’t afford to have it out for regular season contests.
