10. Finn Balor Vs. Kyle O’Reilly: NXT TakeOver 31
It may be the only proper NXT match to make the list, but for many it was the match to watch under the WWE flag. After stepping on “The Prince” for nearly a year, Balor finally regained the NXT championship after a one-hour Iron Man game and a tiebreaker with Adam Cole. His first challenger was O’Reilly, another member of the Undisputed Era who had not been given the opportunity to shine as a bachelor star, despite being his claim to fame in Ring of Honor, PWG in New Japan. Balor won the tough confrontation, but not before O’Reilly broke his jaw in several places. Don’t be surprised if it repeats itself New Year’s Eve is on next year’s list.

9. Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley – WrestleMania 36
At the time, this match seemed like a big deal. Rhea Ripley had the rocket tightly tied behind her back and was the first NXT champion to defend her title at WrestleMania. And while the match itself is solid, what came next has made many fans worse. Flair won, made just a handful of appearances on NXT, didn’t put up a single fighter, and dropped the title on the next TakeOver (without being fixed) before moving back to Raw. The reserve encouraged the strongest critics of Flair and Ripley has yet to regain his momentum in the next eight months.

8. Walter v Ilya Dragunov – NXT UK
NXT’s British brother doesn’t get much attention, but this clash of the NXT UK Championship was so good that it caught the attention of all the WWE fans.

7. Drew McIntyre Vs. Randy Orton – Champions Clash (Ambulance Match)
This is easily the weirdest selection on the list. Bell-to-bell matches, McIntyre and Orton a Survivor series and his title match on Raw were both better, and the support he received that match focused on the idea that this was the final chapter between McIntyre and Orton. It clearly wasn’t, so the only real aspect is seeing legends like Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair get briefly involved.

6. Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles – Friday Night SmackDown
Sami Zayn’s prolonged absence from WWE television caused the WWE to withdraw his Intercontinental Championship in May. SmackDown then hosted an eight-man tournament to crown a new champion, culminating in a match between Bryan and Styles. Although the two didn’t have much history, they ended up having one of the best games of the year.

5. Sami Zayn vs. Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles – Champions Clash (Scale Match)
These three made a name for themselves in their younger days with highly flying games that defied death. And even though the average age of this match was 40, it ended up being one of the wildest scale matches in recent memory.

4. Roman Reigns Vs. Drew McIntyre – Survivor Series
Roman Reigns ’heel twist and the Universal Championship reign as“ The Tribal Chief ”was one of the best arguments of 2020. And while his clashes with Jey Uso and Kevin Owens had more excitement, none of those matches approached his champion clash against Champion vs. McIntyre when it came to pure brutality. This has all the hallmarks of a major WrestleMania event if and when WWE wants to run it again.

3. Edge Vs. Randy Orton – Reaction (the best wrestling match in history)
“The Greatest Match Ever” was not even the best match of 2020 …
All jokes aside, Edge vs. Orton II ended up being a love letter to the professional fight thanks to all the extra wrinkles that were added. The only real blow against him was that Edge suffered a broken triceps during the match shooting, an injury he caused. has not yet returned from.

1. The Undertaker Vs. AJ Styles – WrestleMania 36 (Boneyard Match)
It seems almost poetic. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the WWE to change its plans for the past ten months, including what it wanted to do with Undertaker vs. AJ Styles at WrestleMania. Instead of a match inside an empty entertainment center, fans were treated to something that felt straight out of an action movie. This new type of match, a movie match, ended up becoming WWE programming the rest of the year. This one in particular holds because a) it was the first, b) many consider it to be the best match of WrestleMania 36 and c) it ended up being the final match of The Undertaker in his WWE career.
