The Xbox Live Gold service will retain its title
Microsoft has announced that it will officially change its Xbox Live “Xbox Network” service. The change is not expected to change too much in the big picture and has apparently only been done for aesthetic, descriptive and marketing reasons.
“The‘ Xbox network ’refers to the underlying Xbox online service, which was updated in the Microsoft Services Agreement,” Microsoft said in a statement to The Verge. “The upgrade from ‘Xbox Live’ to ‘Xbox Network’ is intended to distinguish the underlying service from Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.”
Microsoft has confirmed that the online payment service, Xbox Live Gold, will retain its nickname for a long time. The subscription service and its use are not expected to make any brand changes. Microsoft will probably want to emphasize this after the debacle earlier this year, when an increase in charges for the Xbox Live Gold service angered users and caused a very rapid change of publisher.
