Microsoft announced last September that its new Xbox Series X and S consoles will receive in-game support for the high-end dynamic Dolby Vision format at some point in 2021. It has now been confirmed that the company is already keep that promise.
The owners of the Xbox X and S series of the Alpha test ring of the consoles have reported that after the last update (number 2104) sent to their consoles, some S / X series games have been playing in Dolby Vision on compatible TVs.
I signed up for Microsoft after some exciting X / S Alpha Ring series testers (including the Twitter user) @ jujackson79, which also provided other useful information for this article) began posting on social media about what they saw on their Dolby Vision TVs and the company confirmed the development with the following statement:
“As we announced last year, we are excited to include Dolby Vision gaming support on our new Xbox consoles in 2021. The feature is currently in testing and we will soon have more on the overall timing and functionality “.

Alpha Ring users report that Dolby Vision currently appears to be supported by four AAA triple titles: Border lands 3, Gears 5, Wreckfest and the Halo Master Chief Collection.
Given that Dolby Vision apparently needs to get into the code of a title, instead of being something that the console can only add to every game you play, I think having four high-profile titles that support it launch is quite encouraging. Definitely have to wait for the next one Halo Infinite you will get Dolby Vision support if you get older now Hi MCC it runs it and experience suggests that Microsoft always wants to make sure all Gears titles drive technical development.
Initial reports from Alpha Ring players suggest that the brightness, black levels, and color saturations of Dolby Vision games look more refined than in their original HDR10 shapes. This is what you would expect based on the impact that Dolby Vision (which, among other things, adds additional information to the HDR stream to help compatible TVs provide more accurate and dynamic images) to video sources.
Currently, Microsoft cannot confirm when the Dolby Vision game update will be released on all Xbox Series X / S consoles; the final release date will depend, after all, on how many potential problems are discovered during the current public testing phase. But you must be thinking now that it will reach everyone during the first half of 2021.

The timing of Dolby Vision’s arrival on Microsoft’s latest consoles couldn’t be better for LG’s official EMEA Xbox Series X TV partner, which has just begun launching its Dolby Vision 2021-compatible OLED TVs (my review of the OLED65G1 can be found here). While, by the same token, it provides another reminder that Microsoft’s Xbox Series X TV partner for the United States and Canada, Samsung, does not support Dolby Vision on any of its TVs.
