The former director of the Cec d’Ávila basketball team, Yoanis Zaldívar, died on Tuesday morning at the age of 42 from complications suffered after a surgery he underwent recently.
“Sad news for the town of Cec de Ávila and its sports movement,” Televisión Avileña reported.
According to reporter Diego Noy Armenteros, the Cuban coach died of a thrombus after receiving surgery for complications in the intestine.
Omar Venegas Echemendía, vice president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, INDER, wrote heartfelt words after Zaldívar’s death.
“Very sad and painful news comes from Cec d’Ávila, just died Yoanis Zaldivar Anderson, great man, friend, athlete and sports professional. Sensitive loss for basketball and Cuban sport, my deepest condolences to family and friends. EPD, ”he argued.
For his part, sports journalist Henry Morales Márquez was also affected by the news and offered his condolences.
“Sad news in Cuba for the world of baskets. The coach of the Avila Buffaloes Yoanis Zaldívar Anderson has just died at the age of 42. May God keep a place in the glory of this young soul that rises, EPD “, he indicated.
Yoanis Zaldívar Anderson led the Avila Buffaloes team and was a member of the technical team of the national basketball team in Cuba.
