Remember Battleborn? Gearbox’s response to Overwatch was a similar hero shooter with extravagant characters, but failed to catch on in the same way. When it was released in 2016, it got pretty positive reviews, but it didn’t have a big impact among consumers, and the 2K Games publisher couldn’t generate any real enthusiasm.
The game remained alive with updates until about a year later and, in 2019, withdrew from sale in digital stores. Since then, things have slowly slowed down to a possible server shutdown. Yesterday (January 31, 2021) was the last day you could log in and play Battleborn. Now, with the online support officially over, this is a game lost in time. It can no longer be played with any capacity.
It’s a sad story, but unfortunately not all games can capture the moment the way Overwatch or Fortnite have. The upside is that Gearbox has been much more successful recently with Borderlands 3, so we’re sure it’s not too sad for that. Forward and up.
