ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The body camera video released Friday shows deputies scolding two women who tried to pose as seniors so they could get the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Orange County Convention Center site.
Dr. Raul Pino, of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said two women arrived at the scene Wednesday “disguised as grandmothers” in order to receive their second shot. At this time, Florida only vaccinates those over 65 and health care workers.

The body camera video released by the Orange County sheriff’s office does not appear to show the 44-year-old woman and the 34-year-old woman in disguise as described by Pino. They both wear glasses, as Pino said, and one wore a gray cap on his head.
The sheriff’s office did not comment on whether they were wearing costumes at any time.
“Do you know what you did? You stole a vaccine from someone who needs it more than you and now you won’t get your second, “a deputy told the couple.” So that’s a whole waste of time we just lost here. So we’re at this point here, but only for your selfishness to steal a vaccine. “
Ultimately, they were given a notice of infringement, but no arrests were made and they are not charged.
“It simply came to our notice then. You are warned that you are not licensed or incited to be in these premises and that you may be arrested if you refuse to leave or return at any time in this building or in the other buildings, the garage, everything, the entire property here. It’s ridiculous that you’re even here right now, “said one deputy.

One of the deputies told the duo that they were lucky not to be arrested.
“We appreciate it very much,” one of the women said, thanking the deputies.
Pino said the women were reportedly shot, but vaccinators realized they “looked funny” and realized there were some issues with their identifications. Deputies said their vaccination cards had their real name on them, but the dates of birth did not match those on the driver’s license.
“We have not lacked weapons ready to be vaccinated. We also have people who prefer to be old to get vaccinated. Yesterday, then, we noticed that a couple of young ladies came disguised as grandmothers to get vaccinated for the second time, so I don’t know how they escaped the first time, but they got vaccinated. The coats, the gloves, the glasses: all in all and they were probably in their twenties “, said Pino on Thursday.
Now, Pino said officials will have to determine if they actually received the first dose and how this may have happened.

So part of the conclusions we have to make is whether they were actually vaccinated by us, when (they were vaccinated), what happened, what date, what time, to try to find out if there are holes, cracks, the process which allows people to do it, ”Pino said.
He said it is possible that the women could meet someone from the place that would allow them access.
Security has recently increased at the convention center site due to the increase in strange incidents, including nurses who approached when they leave their shifts at 10pm for strangers who want to know if they have any. additional dose.
While the so-called Grandma incident may headline, Pino said it’s not the first time someone has tried to fake it to get vaccinated.
“So there have been a few. They are all different and creative. There was another person who bore the same name as his father, he came with a card but a different birthday. But, you know, we have access to a lot of information. Therefore, we can quickly check who is who, where they were born, you know, everything you can imagine, ”said Pino.

Given the pace of operations at the convention center, he knows that others may have exploded through the cracks.
“I think it’s higher than we suspect, to be honest with you. Because we’re committed to this process and we try to move people quickly, there are people who could come in, so it’s probably higher than we suspect, ”Pino said.
