The YouTube video hosting platform suspended Donald Trump indefinitely, American media have indicated, while his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, will no longer be able to make money with his recordings.
YouTube, which suspended for the first time on January 13 the channel of the now former president (of 2.77 million subscribers) after the violent assault on the Capitol on January 6, announced a week ago that it was prolonging this suspension for seven days.
The US platform, owned by Google, had been criticized for its slow response, compared to the more radical measures of other social networks. YouTube simply suspended the streaming of new videos on the former president’s official channel.
“In line with concerns about the still possible acts of violence, Donald J Trump’s network will remain suspended,” a YouTube spokeswoman told Politico media.
YouTube on Tuesday confirmed to AFP that it had temporarily barred Rudy Giuliani from benefiting from its “partner” program for repeatedly failing to abide by the platform’s rules on misinformation during the US election.
The lawyer, the chain has 600,000 subscribers, no longer has access to certain functions and can no longer receive money from advertising space broadcast before the videos.
The 76-year-old former mayor of New York, who also risks being expelled from the city’s bar association, fueled conspiracy theories by claiming that the elections were rigged for the benefit of Trump’s rival, Democrat Joe Biden.
