Popular Mexican singer Yuri, who calls herself a “Christian,” received strong criticism on social media after posting a dancing video disguised as the Virgin, in what she considered “humor” for Christmas.
In the video posted on the social network TikTok, Yuri appears disguised as Santa Maria next to a man dressed as St. Joseph. After an apparently innocent dance, the Mexican singer moves with steps similar to those of reggaeton and then simulate a pregnancy discomfort.

“Every religion deserves respect,” one social network user wrote, while another wondered about Yuri, “Christian or hypocritical?”
Another TikTok user said that “I was one of the people who admired and respected him as a person and artist, but with that for me he lost everything.”
Another person demanded “a public apology of this kind, which respects our faith and especially our Blessed Mother who carried in her womb our Savior,” while one user said that “even if it is humor , she knows it’s disrespectful, but she does it just to get attention. “
Interviewed by ACI Prensa, Fr. Hugo Valdemar, penitentiary canon of the Primate Archdiocese of Mexico, said that the outrage among the Catholic faithful is understandable, because “the mother figure is endearing to all human beings. For example, in In Mexico, the biggest offense is the one made in reference to the mother. “
“Well the same goes for Catholics, an offense to the Blessed Virgin in addition to being a grave sin of blasphemy offends in the deepest our Christian feeling,” he stressed.
The Mexican priest, who for 15 years was the director of Communications of the Archdiocese of Mexico under the pastoral government of Cardinal Norberto Rivera, has explained that “the Catholic Church, since the beginning of Christianity, has had great love and veneration for the Blessed Virgin Mary “.
“She is the mother of Jesus, preserved from all stain and sin, the most perfect creature, who is also the mother of the Church because that is how Jesus wanted her on the cross,” she said.
“Love and veneration for her is timeless and endearing to those of us who are disciples of Jesus through baptism. That is why we consider it an offense to her to be an offense to Jesus and to those baptized in Christ,” he indicated.
Fr. Valdemar pointed out that “offenses or blasphemies against the Blessed Virgin Mary always come from Satan, who feels a terrible hatred for her,” so that Yuri “acted as an instrument of Satan, used his sectarian hatred for offending the Virgin Mary and for offending us Catholics. “
“It is impossible to understand how someone who calls himself a Christian can blaspheme and offend the Mother of Christ. A mockery of her is a mockery of Jesus, and it is condemnable and intolerable,” he expressed.
For Fr. Valdemar, the dance spread by Yuri on TikTok “is a blasphemous and satanic act.”
