Zaha Hadid Architects regenerates the Huanggang Port area in Shenzhen, China

Zaha Hadid Architects has designed the future of the Huanggang Port Area, creating a center for scientific research and collaboration in industries in Shenzhen, China. The proposed new master plan launches “an important node of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen science and technology corridor”, By means of the reconstruction of the port building and the transformation of his empty lots in the national center of technological innovation.

Proposing a hub for industries such as microelectronics, materials development, artificial intelligence, robotics and medical sciences, Zaha Hadid Architects ’proposed master plan for the Huanggang Port area defines three interconnected districts: the port center, the collaborative innovation area and the port living area. .

Located in Futian District of the city, in a key interchange within the Greater Shenzhen Bay region and centered around two main public squares, the master plan of Huanggang Port Area will have its area of being on the northeast end, which includes residential developments, schools, sports, and recreational facilities, as well as shopping and dining facilities for those working in the science park. Each cluster of buildings has its own “core” of an outdoor community square, ensuring “a green belt of wetlands and parks along the Shenzhen River”.

It currently serves 300,000 people every day, crosses the border with Hong Kong, the proposed project aims to generate more direct connections with its environment. In fact, it incorporates direct connections with the Shenzhen subway network, in the Shenzhen park of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong scientific and technological innovation cooperation zone. In addition, the reconstruction of the port structure will allow its 1.67 square kilometers of car parks and cargo inspection areas. “which will be redeveloped as a national center of technological innovation […] formed by centers and laboratories of scientific investigation, as well as a center of conferences to receive conferences, talks and events that promote the exchange of ideas and the collaboration ”.

In addition, the existing management area and public transportation interchange will be transformed into the center of the district, incorporating offices and hotels for visiting scientists and researchers. Given the future expansion of studies and research laboratories, the proposal envisages shared podiums and walking bridges.
