Gmail, YouTube briefly below as Google briefly crashes

New York (AP) – Google users in the United States, Europe, India and the rest of the world are unable to access their Gmail accounts, watch YouTube videos or access documents online.

Tens of thousands of complaints arose around 7 a.m. off the east coast of the United States. Most of those people, about 90%, could not log in, according to the Downtector site.

Inability to sign in prevents access to other sites through Google, including mobile video games.

The disturbance occurred on East Coast for parents who were raising their children for school on Monday. Millions of students rely on Google for online instruction during epidemics, including sites such as Google Docs.

The problem seemed to be resolved just before 8am

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, said at 7:52 a.m. “Gmail’s problem should be fixed for most affected users.” “We will continue to work to restore service to affected users.”

Downtector, which monitors website crashes, has been reported to have affected users worldwide, but was particularly prevalent in the Northeastern United States, the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe. Japan, Malaysia and India were also the worst hit.
