Lyon City, Michigan: Three killed in plane crash

The three dead are believed to be the pilot and two passengers, the sheriff’s office said.

The family of five living in the house came out alive, but the house was engulfed in flames, the office said. The house is located in the municipality of Lyon, about 40 miles west of Detroit.

The mother told WDIV, a subsidiary of CNN, that the family was inside when the plane crashed. He said they were in the living room arguing about what movie to watch and that they had just moved into a different room when the plane attacked the house, according to WDIV.

If the mother, father and three children had stayed in the living room, it would have been a different story, WDIV reported.

According to WDIV, the family cat died.

The house is located north of Oakland / Southwest Airport, operated by Oakland County.

Eric Mullen told WDIV that a plane crash has always been his worst fear of living in that neighborhood, because planes always fly from the airport about half a mile away.

“I have two brothers under the age of 2 and they were sleeping upstairs; they were taking a nap … You worry about how this could happen to us, because these planes fly around all the time,” said another neighbor, Chase said. Southwick and WDIV.

According to the WDIV, the Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted about the crash.
