The elected senator and now senator in property, Rosamar Trujillo Plumey, was able to swear today as his colleagues did, to be able to deliver the only document missing to receive his official certification by the State Election Commission (EEC ).

This morning Trujillo Plumey was the only senator elected to fail to complete the swearing-in process as her authorized public accountant had been unable to deliver a financial report to the State Election Commission to finally be certified.
Trujillo Plumey was sworn into office in the Senate chamber alongside the secretary of the legislature, Manuel Torres. The new senator tried to place near a photo of her finite parents: the former mayor of Humacao, Rosamar Trujillo Plumey and Rosa Elena Plumey.
The historic day for Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia began early in the morning, when he arrived at the Supreme Court headquarters to participate in the official swearing-in before Judge President Maite D. Oronoz Rodriguez.
Pierluisi then moved on to the Capitol, where he would take part in the symbolic swearing-in ceremony in front of nearly 400 guests, despite active restrictions banning crowds to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Before leaving the steps of the House of Laws to begin the ceremony, Pierluisi received a commemorative document to mark the historic occasion.
The activity finally started around 11:00 am with the departure of Pierluisi to the prepared platform in front of the Capitol.
The event was hosted by veteran songwriter and producer Angel “Cucco” Peña, who conducted the members of the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra.
The ceremony was attended by important public and political figures, such as the outgoing governor Wanda Vázquez Garced, in a cream-colored dress.
Vázquez Garced was sworn in as governor of Puerto Rico in August 2019 following the resignation of Ricardo Rosselló Nevares.
Several former governors were also present, such as the former leaders of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) Aníbal Acevedo Vilá (left) and Alejandro García Padilla (right).
Former Governor for the New Progressive Party (PNP) Luis Fortuño and his wife, Lucé Vela, also attended the ceremony.
Washington-based commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez was present, but would later return to the United States to take the oath of office.
During the protocol acts, several guests from different sectors of the Puerto Rican population gave speeches.
The symbolic oath finally began at 11:30 a.m. when Pierluisi placed his left hand on a Bible held by his side, engineer Jorge Pierluisi Diaz, and before the presiding judge of the Supreme Court, Maite D. Oronoz Rodríguez.
After completing the symbolic act and listening to at least 12 pipes, Pierluisi offered his first message to the country as a governor in property.
In the message Pierluisi argued that he will administer a corruption-free, diverse and inclusive government, and that he will fight every “enemy” of Puerto Rico internally or externally.
Among the “enemies” he mentioned were crime, failures in the education system, the island’s political status vis-à-vis the United States, the island’s economy and reconstruction since the devastating passage. of Hurricane Maria in 2017.
He also stressed that fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in Puerto Rico will be one of his priorities.
Similarly, he acknowledged the diversity in the composition of the legislature and promised to work to finalize agreements for the benefit of Puerto Rico.
Contrary to previous oaths, Pierluisi chose to travel the road from the Capitol to the Fortress by car. The governor then walked from Fortress Street to his new residence on foot.
Before arriving at St. Catherine’s Palace, Pierluisi and his sister, Charity entered the Church of the Servants of Mary, located near the governor’s residence, to pray and receive blessings.
Due to the active restrictions by the last executive order of Vázquez Garced, the agglomeration of people in front of the Fortress was not allowed to receive Pierluisi.
Despite the restrictions, a large group of journalists and guests greeted him at the entrance through the door.
Similarly, Pierluisi was received by multiple members of his family.

As usual, Pierluisi went out to the main balcony of the residence to greet those present.
Pierluisi took the opportunity to present the mascot of the Fortress and the family, Amaia.

In this way, Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia became the number 12 governor of Puerto Rico under the Constitution of the Associated Free State (ELA).
