Trump, in the face of expulsion, resigns from the Screen Actors Guild

NEW YORK (AP) – Donald Trump has resigned from the Screen Actors Guild after the union threatened to oust him for his role in the Capitol revolt in January.

In a letter dated Thursday to SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris, Trump said he was resigning from the union of which he had been a member since 1989.

“I no longer want to be associated with your union,” Trump wrote in a letter shared by the actors’ union.. “As such, this letter informs you of my immediate resignation from SAG-AFTRA. You didn’t do anything for me. ”

The guild responded with a brief statement: “Thank you.”

Last month, the SAG-AFTRA board voted that there was a likely cause for Trump to violate his membership guidelines. for his role in the siege of the Capitol on January 6th. Trump, the union said, had sustained “a reckless disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting and ultimately threatening the safety of journalists, many of whom are members of the SAG-AFTRA.”

Trump’s case had to be weighed by a disciplinary committee. In his letter, the former president said he had no interest in that hearing. “Who cares?” He wrote.

“While I’m not familiar with your work, I’m very proud of my work in films like‘ Home Alone 2 ’,‘ Zoolander ’and‘ Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps ’; and TV shows like ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, ‘Saturday Night Live’ and of course one of the most successful shows in television history, ‘The Apprentice’, to name just a few how many! Trump wrote.

“I’ve also helped a lot with the cable TV business (which is said to be a dying platform in a short time until I’m into politics) and I’ve created thousands of jobs on networks like MSDNC and CNN Fake News, many others, “Trump continued.

On Thursday, the Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for its annual awards.

Loss of guild membership does not disqualify anyone from acting. But most major productions comply with union contracts and hire only union actors.
