How To Quit WhatsApp Definitely

If you use WhatsApp, Facebook’s incredibly popular messaging app, you’ve probably come across news about their changing privacy policy. While the service seems to be constantly changing from more secure to less secure and back again, you may feel like you’ve been packing your data and finding a new platform to chat with friends.

If you decide to unsubscribe from WhatsApp, here’s what you want to do:

To export messages, tap the chat you want to save. Tap the chat name at the top, and scroll down to “Export chat,” then choose whether to include the chat media.

Then request your account details by going to “Settings” in the lower right. Then choose “Account” and “Request Account Information.” It will take about three days to receive your WhatsApp data report, but they will notify you when it is ready.

Finally, to delete your account, go to “Settings” and then to “Account” and “Delete my account”. Doing so will clear the message history, delete it from all groups, and delete the backup. You are now free from WhatsApp and you just have to convince your friends and family to migrate to a different app.
