Chef José Mendín, one of the owners of the La Placeta restaurant in Miami, Florida, said on social media that the city’s authorities had again notified him that they had to remove the mural from the flag of Puerto Rico which is in that place.
“Here we go again. The city of Miami and the MiMo district in the midst of the pandemic have nothing better to do than tell us again after all we’ve been through to get our flag out. That’s ridiculous. Maybe MiMo he doesn’t deserve my flag here. Tired of being attacked for code compliance. We won’t give up so easily, but that’s just stupid, “Mendin wrote on the Internet next to a photo of the document.
The act Julián Gil, who also owns the restaurant, expressed through his stories on Instagram that the act of the authorities is an abuse and that the mural is not going to be erased.
The dispute over the island’s flag began in 2018 when it opened the site. However, in January 2020 after years of dispute and communication, the city commissioners voted in favor that the said mural could remain as it was.
