There are a lot of questions about Nintendo’s upcoming Super Mario movie and Illumination, but one of the biggest concerns will be Mario’s. The truth is, we don’t even know if Mario will have a voice or not. You would imagine that Mario will have some sort of line in the movie as he intercepts from time to time in games.
While we wait to learn more about the voice of the cast of the film, it seems that the voice of Mario that we all know and love may not be involved in the project. In a GalaxyCon Live interview with Charles Martinet, he asked him about his thoughts on the upcoming film. Part of Charles’s answer is as follows.
“… if they invite me to play, I will come in to play with much joy and happiness.”
Now this could be taken in two different ways. The most obvious way is that Mr. Martinet has simply not been asked to cast the role. The second way of looking at it makes us take Charles’s comments as rocket games. Charles is unlikely to be able to confirm / deny his work on the film, so the careful wording of the previous statement could border on the issue.
There’s no doubt that fans will be upset if Mr. Martinet doesn’t express Mario in the film, but big-name films often go with the power of Hollywood stars to propel their projects. We just have to stay tight and see where Nintendo and Illumination are going.
