CD Projekt RED victim of an attack

CD Projekt RED attacked: source code can now be sold (update)

CD Projekt RED has just released a statement acknowledging that they are victims of a cyberattack, the attackers accessed its internal network by accessing sensitive data and the source code of their famous games.

The company has already seen a difficult year, and things seem to be getting worse. In a press release posted to Twitter, CD Projekt RED included a screenshot of a plain text rescue note that the intruder left on its servers. The source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Gwent, “and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3 (probably the remastering) have been captured or encrypted. If you read the note, there are no private documents of CDPR’s fell victim to financial accounting, administration, legal, human resources and more.

The CDPR stated that it would not yield to the attacker’s requests and that it contacted law enforcement. The hacker gives CD Projekt RED 48 hours to contact him to get a deal, but what is requested has not been included.

Updated:

Earlier today, imaginable legitimate source code leaks began to appear in online forums, as the VX-underground cybersecurity account pointed out on Twitter. This initial leak is believed to include the source code for the CDPR virtual card game, Gwent. The files were posted to Mega.nz and deleted quickly. However, the content soon spread to the most famous piracy forums. A site called CyberNews has already downloaded these files and found that they are actually the source code for Gwent, the card game released by CD Projekt in 2016.

Suppose this is an actual auction from a real seller who obtained the data. The seller offers to use a guarantee and only allows those who have a deposit to participate, a tactic used by many sellers to prove that they are serious and to ensure that no scams occur, ”said a spokesman for KELA (a company that controls the dark network) said Auction offers source code files for both Red Engine and CDPR game versions, including derivations of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales and the recently released Cyberpunk 2077. It is also believed that the stolen material includes internal documents, although it is not clear what types of documents or additional material the full cache includes.

KELA says the starting price of the auction is $ 1 million, with higher bids in increments of $ 500,000 and a purchase price now of $ 7 million. Only users who deposit 0.1 bitcoins can participate, so Kivilevich believes that hackers are seriously concerned about hosting the auction and that the material for sale is legitimate because it ensures that no one participating in the auction tries to scam the sellers.

Update 2:

Turns out there was a Cyberpunk 2077 bidder source code, The Witcher 3, the card game Gwent has sold out. According to cyberspecialists, the seller would have received a “satisfactory” offer outside the auction, so they closed it. Not everyone is convinced that the data has been sold. According to security analyst Emsisoft, there may be no potential buyers. The criminals allegedly stopped the sale in order to give the impression that the source code has been sold.
