The Rhode Island Department of Health on Monday reported an additional 90 coronavirus-related deaths.

On Friday, RIDOH had reported 2,376 fatalities since the start of the pandemic; on Monday this number was 2,466.

The three-day adjustment represented a 4% increase in the total number of deaths in the last 11 months. The agency says only 9 of the deaths took place over the weekend.

The harassed agency claims that there was no intentional report, but that this has been routine, although it is the biggest correction so far.

RIDOH with an increase of 4%

“Over the past three days, the total number of deaths has been 5, 1 and 3. However, the total number of confirmed fatalities since the start of the pandemic has increased further,” the spokesman said. of RIDOH, Joseph Wendelken.

According to RIDOH, “our death data are considered provisional for at least three months and are often adjusted upwards. This is because it takes time to confirm the causes of death and make cross-references to our different data sets. We typically do cross-references to make our case data and our overall mortality data to ensure that all fatalities are captured by COVID-19 ”.

“This often leads us to identify COVID-19 fatalities that were not initially reported to RIDOH as COVID-19 fatalities. We did one of these routine reviews, which is why there was a larger increase in COVID-19. the usual in the current cumulative total of COVID-19 fatalities, ”they added.

“We continue to have a substantial mortality rate and there is simply too much infection and transmission in Rhode Island,” said Dr. Michael Fine, former Rhode Island health director.

65+ vaccination records have suffered technical problems

Earlier Monday, RIDOH admitted that registration for those over 65 wishing to schedule vaccinations was launched late after having technical issues.
