Popular singer Peter Yarrow has been charged in a new lawsuit with raping a minor girl in a Manhattan hotel room in 1969.
The charges were filed against Yarrow, the founding member of the legendary 1960s trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, in a Wednesday Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit filed under the Child Victims Act.
Prior to the alleged rape, Yarrow met his accuser, who was a fan of his music, several times at his band’s performances, according to the procedure.
He then “took an interest in her,” acting in what the minor thought was “paternalistic,” according to the lawsuit.
But the lawsuit alleges that the popular icon was actually “preparing” it.
She eventually fled her Minnesota home and met Yarrow at a hotel on the Lower East Side, where she allegedly raped her, the lawsuit says.
The next day, Yarrow bought the minor a plane ticket to Minnesota and told her to leave, according to the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff “has suffered the effects of Yarrow’s rape since then.”
She seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
Yarrow has a previous criminal conviction for “taking indecent liberties” with a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room in Washington, DC in 1970.
Messages soliciting comments from Yarrow and his attorney’s attorneys were not returned immediately.
