I started this new generation of game consoles in hopes of playing most games on the PS5, like the way I played more things in the last generation of PS4. But almost five months later, I spend most of my time on the Xbox Series X and now I feel bad, like I’m ignoring my PS5.
I was lucky enough to stick the two new machines to the launch. I have not used any special connections or industry contacts to get them. I just had a lot of tabs open and I started searching for consoles by the time the orders were placed. At the time, I mainly had the Xbox Series X because I knew I would want to play Hello and some other Microsoft exclusives. Also, for the first time in my life I had saved money buy the two new consoles at launch. So why not buy both if you get the chance?
After the two machines arrived in November, I mostly played on the PS5. I have Godfall i thousands Morales. I beat Astro games room. I downloaded and played PS4 games like GTA online i Red Dead online. I had a good time. But in recent months, things have changed.
In December, I received one Xbox Series X Storage Expansion Card., giving me an additional 1 TB of next-generation space. This is very useful as it allows me to download and install more next generation titles. On PS5, there is still no way to expand SSD storage, limiting the number of large games like Call of Duty can be installed at the same time. I also started downloading more Xbox 360 and Xbox One games I had and found that they played very well on the new machine. Game Pass started adding more games to my growing list of things to play. I also started taking advantage of the ability to bounce between my Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Series X, with some games that allowed me to play anywhere, without having to transfer any reservations.

For example, Gears 5. I started playing the game on Xbox One, then switched to PC, then switched to my Xbox Series X while my GF was playing something on the PC and then switched to xCloud on the phone when I wanted to play in my d ‘be near the fireplace. during a cold night. And it just worked. I didn’t have to manage the storage, the facilities or anything. It was perfect. This also happened with Watch Dogs Legion. I started playing on Xbox One. Then I got my new console and started the game in the X series. All my progress, successes and savings were waiting for me. No fuss, no extra steps. Meanwhile, on PS5, I was able to move on from my savings Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but I didn’t get all my trophies. I also accidentally downloaded the file PS4 version the first time I went to install it, which was annoying and a waste of time.
Another major reason I have spent more time on my Xbox is compatibility with previous versions. Sure, almost all PS4 games run on PS5, but no PS3 or PS2 game runs on the new machine. On the Xbox, I’ve been playing Xbox 360 games, Xbox One games, and even an original Xbox game. They also look great thanks to the built-in Auto HDR feature on the new Xbox. And recently, older games were further enhanced on the Xbox Series X with the FPS Boost feature. It’s still limited, but it’s possible to play New Super Lucky story at 120 fps it was fantastic. The Master Chief collection it also runs at 4K / 120 fps and has become one of my most played games of 2021. It’s also great to be able to jump on the PC to keep moving forward on my account.
Game Pass is another big reason why my PS5 is starting to take off. I just downloaded Dirt 5 on my Xbox, which was recently added to Game Pass. I didn’t even turn on the console. I did it all through the easy-to-use Xbox app on my phone. In fact, I could only play it on my phone via xCloud, but I’ll wait to play it on my big silly 4K TV with 120 fps mode enabled.
I guess as more Sony games appear, like now Horizon Forbidden West or Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, I will find myself devoting more time to the PS5. But if you’re currently trying to buy a state-of-the-art console, first, good luck! Second, if you’re not super picky, I think right now an Xbox Series X might be the best bet. Especially if you are interested in playing old games or are willing to pay the Game Pass.
Like I said before, I feel bad. My poor PS5 is there, only used for a few hours RDO or GTA online. I want to love it. I loved my PS4 and even the PSVR headphones. It’s one of my all-time favorite consoles. But I can’t stop playing my Xbox Series X and I don’t want to. Sorry PS5. I’ll be back when Deathloop leaves. Promise!
