Fans of Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” can count on the series’ co-star Jennette McCurdy, who has confirmed that she will not be repeating her role as Sam Puckett in the upcoming sequel season.
McCurdy, 28, confessed in a recent episode of a podcast featuring “Empty Inside” that she is “ashamed” of her acting career.
“My experience with acting is that I’m ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past,” he said. “I resent my career in many ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles I played and I thought it was the most cheesy and embarrassing. “
Alongside McCurdy, “iCarly” also stars Miranda Cosgrove (Carly Shay) and aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012. Her character later split into the Nick series “Sam & Cat,” which launch the career of pop star Ariana Grande Cat Valentine).
“I did the shows I did between the ages of 13 and 21, and at 15 I was already embarrassed,” McCurdy recalled. “My friends at 15 aren’t like,‘ Oh, cool, you’re in this Nickelodeon show. ’It was embarrassing. And I imagine there’s a very different experience with acting if you’re proud of your roles and if you you feel fulfilled ”.
Speaking to Anna Faris, a guest on “Empty Inside,” McCurdy said he would eventually stop acting in favor of taking on more writing and directing jobs. “She is OK. I stopped smoking a few years ago because initially I didn’t want to, ”he admitted.
“My family didn’t have a lot of money,” said McCurdy, whose mother encouraged her to start acting from the age of six. “That was the way out, which I really think was helpful in achieving some success.”
The child actor said that “always, always, always, acting was hard for me,” adding that his nerves often took the best out of her.
“Once I started controlling my nerves was when I started to have a little traction, but I finally quit smoking after my mother died because with her death many of her ideas for my life, and that was my own journey, and difficult, for sure, ”he explained.
He also confided in her one of his most painful memories of acting: when he went through a role in the 2005 film “Because of Winn-Dixie,” about the age of 13, because the casting agents thought it was too much. “homemade” for paper.
When Faris asked him if he would ever perform again, McCurdy confirmed that he refused to perform after the debut of his solo live “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” in February 2020.
