The iconic notch on the iPhone has remained basically the same since Apple debuted it on the iPhone X in 2017, but this year things could change as new information suggests the notch is down to the iPhone 13 .
Earlier this month, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published a research note (via Mac rumors) stating that Apple plans to do so reduce the size of the iPhone face slot. But now MacRumors has obtained a photo of the alleged front panels of the iPhone 13 from a Greek repair service that shows what a small-sized notch might look like. (Note: For legal reasons, we are unable to republish the image here, so please see MacRumor publish to look better.)
Kuo mentioned earlier that part of Apple’s solution to reduce notch is to reduce the size and number of components needed to support Face ID. However, the new photo also demonstrates this by consolidating components and moving the file IPhone headset speaker while by combining it with the bezel of the phone, it looks like Apple has been able to cut the notch size by almost half.
While many will likely want Apple to completely get rid of the notch on the iPhone, if the supposed photo is accurate, the notch remains online to significantly reduce the size. Still, it’s not the first time we’ve heard that Apple could lower the level, as similar rumors were reported before the launch of the iPhone 12, and that notch did not end up receiving a change.
On the plus side, other predictions mentioned in Kuo’s note include support for 120Hz VRR screens with LTPO technology on more expensive models of the iPhone 13, along with a new Qualcomm X60 modem to improve 5G performance and updated cameras, including the expansion of the iPhone 12 Pro Max sensor change technology across the entire line of the iPhone 13.

Also, despite hinting that Apple could launch a “portless” iPhone in 2021, it looks like Kuo has backtracked on that prediction, as each new iPhone 13 will feature a traditional lighting port.
The only thing that looks set to remain the same is the overall design of the iPhone, as several sources claim that Apple will keep the more angular design it introduced last year to the iPhone 12, which in itself goes be a call back to previous iPhones like the iPhone. 4.
