LONDON (Reuters) – Britain reported ten deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday 28 days after a positive test, the lowest daily figure since early September as the vaccine launch hit another milestone.

Official data also showed that 31,301,267 people had received the first vaccine against the COVID-19 vaccine, with five million now having both doses in what is the fastest release in Europe.

“Our spectacular vaccination program has administered more than five million second-dose doses, offering the most vulnerable to COVID, including half of all those over 80, the best possible protection,” said Health Minister Matt Hancock, in a statement.

Britain is on track to achieve the government’s goal of offering a vaccine against all over-50s by mid-April and all adults by the end of July, according to the government.

The latest data also showed that there were 3,423 new cases, a slight increase from the 3,402 recorded the day before, although unlike countries like France and Germany fighting a third wave of coronavirus, infections in Britain have gone constantly decreasing.

Strict blockade measures in England began easing on March 29 and Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to update the country with more details on lifting restrictions on Monday, including whether foreign hospitality can return. open on April 12 as planned.
