Former Texas Gov. David Dewhurst is released from prison after being arrested on charges of domestic violence

DALLAS – Former Texas Gov. David Dewhurst has been released from prison after being arrested on charges of domestic violence in Dallas.

Dallas police announced the arrest around midnight. Police said a woman told them she was physically assaulted by Dewhurst, who is 75 years old. He was released shortly before 5 a.m., according to reports.

Dewhurst faces a felony charge for domestic violence. His bond was set at $ 1,000. Police have not revealed the identity of the woman who called police.

Last year, Dewhurst’s girlfriend was arrested on two separate occasions. The woman was accused of kicking him and breaking two ribs in one incident and the other, throwing candle wax at him. A grand jury refused to charge her in the first case and last week the charges were dropped in the second case.
